Restoration of veranda at:
Abbott St, Launceston

The original embellishments on the veranda, including turned spindles and fretwork had previously been removed and disposed of.

Hawksley Constructions were contracted to restore the veranda to it’s original state, using only an old black and white photograph as a guide. The remaining structure was nearly all affected by rot. The floor frame and boards, some posts, roof frame, balustrade and handrails, had to be replaced. 

Imitations of the fretwork and turned spindles were not available from the usual manufacturers. Therefore Hawksley Construction’s employees undertook the labour intensive job of recreating these items. 

Following careful investigation the original colour scheme was determined and reinstated.
